At Calapooia Clay, we believe that a welcoming, respectful, and clean studio space helps everyone thrive. Whether you’re a member or class participant, your helpfulness keeps our studio safe and welcoming.
Be Respectful and Friendly
Treat fellow artists with kindness and respect. Celebrate everyone’s creativity and avoid behaviors that disrupt or distract others from their work.
Handling and Ownership of Work
You may not handle, move, or alter another member’s work without their permission. If space is limited, you may gently shift items within the same shelf, but do not relocate work to a different shelf or area.
Removing or interfering with another person’s work is not permitted and may result in loss of studio privileges.
All newly made work must remain on a ware board labeled with your name and the current date.
Keep it Clean
Please clean your workspace, wheels, tools, tables, sinks, floors, and all other common areas when you are done. Leave your area tidier than you found it to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for all.
When cleaning bats, please wipe them with a damp sponge rather than rinsing them in water, as excess moisture can cause warping over time. Taking a little extra care helps keep studio equipment in good condition for everyone.
Safety First
Follow all safety guidelines including proper ventilation, wet cleaning methods to reduce dust, and wearing protective gear when needed. When sanding, please either wet sand to minimize dust or, if dry sanding, do so outside while wearing appropriate protective gear to keep everyone safe and healthy.
Care for Studio Equipment
Use all equipment with care and follow instructions. If you are unsure how to use something, ask for guidance rather than risking damage.
Clay and Materials
Please use only clay and firing materials purchased through the studio. Outside clay or materials are not permitted. This helps maintain consistency, protect studio equipment, and support a smooth firing process for the entire community.
Space and Storage
Drying shelves are for short-term use. Please move your work to the next stage promptly once it is ready.
The studio is a shared workspace, not long-term storage. Work left beyond posted timelines may be consolidated or discarded to make space for others.
Please keep personal tools and materials organized and within designated areas.
Community Spirit
This is a shared space for learning and growth. Help create a supportive atmosphere by communicating openly, offering encouragement, and respecting others’ time and space. Please be mindful of space and storage limits so that all members have fair access to studio resources.
By following these guidelines, each artist helps build the friendly, productive, and inspiring studio community that makes Calapooia Clay special.
To maintain a safe and respectful environment, repeated disregard for studio guidelines may result in loss of studio access.
